Important news has come to light for people traveling in autorickshaws in Gujarat. The state government has announced new autorickshaw fare rates and these new rates are effective from August 7, 2026. The Ports and Transport Department has issued a new instruction under Section 67 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. The revised rates have been implemented by canceling the rental rates announced earlier in the year 2022. As per the new provision, the minimum fare for the first 1.2 kilometers of an auto rickshaw in the city and contiguous areas will be Rs. 25 has been fixed. Thereafter for every additional 200 meters Rs. 4 to be paid. One of the most important provisions of the new advice includes travel outside the city limits, which provides for charging one and a half times the normal city rate for traveling outside the city limits. Apart from this, the waiting charges have also been modified. There will be no waiting charge for five minutes, but for every minute thereafter Rs. 1 will be charged. However, the maximum limit of waiting will be one hour. During the night time i.e. between 11 pm to 5 am, 50 percent more will be charged on the basic fare i.e. one and half fare, which has been kept as before.
