The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has taken a significant decision aimed at promoting clean energy and conserving electricity in Ahmedabad. It has now been made mandatory to install solar panels on all new government and religious buildings constructed within the city. Buildings that fail to comply with this regulation will not be granted permission for occupancy (Building Use permission) upon the completion of construction. The AMC has taken a firm stance, stating that if a new building lacks a solar panel system, its occupancy permit will be withheld. Consequently, organizations undertaking the construction of new government buildings or religious sites must incorporate plans for solar panel installation from the very beginning. This initiative will boost the adoption of solar energy in the city and reduce reliance on conventional electricity. Furthermore, the AMC is conducting a campaign to integrate solar energy into religious sites across Ahmedabad. So far, solar panels have been installed at approximately 200 religious institutions in the city, with plans to install them at the remaining 145 institutions in the near future. The installation of solar panels will help lower electricity costs for these religious institutions and government buildings, while also contributing to a reduction in environmental pollution through the use of clean energy.
